Panasonic TM700 vs Sony XDCAM EX1

A competition between two camcorders in different class! Well, I did it anyway because I own both camcorder and I want to see how well can TM700 perform. I’m glad that TM700 performed quite well in bright place.
Please note that Panasonic TM700 has superior OIS, faster focus than XDCAM EX1, and auto noise reduce when using gain, while XDCAM EX1 has better low light sensitive, higher resolution(not referring to the sensor but the picture), and easy manual control.
Looks like I can take nice video even when I’m not serious now! Oh, and slow motion; if you check out my other video, I actually tried to warp 60fps footage into 24fps.. Still, I would need XDCAM EX at certain situation.

    @xanbo TM700 indeed is a nice camcorder for $1000. Also, don’t forget it can shoot 1080p videos in 60fps, which might be useful in post-production… while XDCAM EXs can do 60fps only in 720p or 30fps in 1080i…

    I’ve been curious to see the TM700 up against an EX1/EX3 so thanks for posting. The Sony is clearly the better camera but considering the difference in size, price, etc. the Panasonic certainly seems like a very good value.

    @scratchdrift if …
    @scratchdrift if you don’t use color night rec – which allow camcorder use slow shutter automatically – you can use cinematic color and other night scene related at the same time. Or, you can adjust the exposure manually. It has poor low light sensitive if you compare with XDCAM EX1… TM700 need to use gain in a room while XDCAM EX1 doesn’t.

    i would really appreciate if you could try different settings at night and post some shots with the settings on youtube. I want this camera but i want to understand what works optimally at night, can you use night settings and cinematic tone curve at the same time?

    awesome comparison, this is better than most tests, because the comparison is a camcorder in a different price class
